Sugar

I think it was the beginning of the end when women
Starting shaving off all their pubic hair
It’s none of my business, but I wish there was more
Pubic hair out here in the land of dragons

I think it was the end of the beginning when I started
Putting two not three teaspoons of sugar in my afternoon
Coffee
Something tells me I best pull back before it’s too late
And all this cheese Danish goes to my head

I believe it was the beginning of many unraveled endings
When we stopped looking into each other’s eyes during sex
And maybe I’m just imagining things or maybe the end
Really is near as I smoke another imaginary joint
And wish you were here

Sometimes when I’m feeling too full of myself I think
I’ll go the way of the dodo bird while most of the time
I know as Jewish-Sicilian poets go becoming extinct
Is not even an option because I’m nowhere near cool
Enough to burn out as the rearview stares back at me
Like a shrinking violet or rusted razorblade

I know the times are a-changin’ as I do my best
To wrap my head around exactly what this means
And who will be first and who will be last when the
Chosen are culled from the nonspecific
And snorting a little sugar up your nose is no longer
Frowned upon as the chickens come home to roost
And another golden egg begs to be turned into a super
Omelet
