waiting on the big sleep pill

https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/charlespoet/episodes/2019-06-05T14_09_34-07_00

waiting on the big sleep pill
tantalizing novel approach
chandler and kevorkian

match made in heaven, match made in hell
matchless in the dim, dark fires burning down my eyes
blue tip blown out by a grizzly’s sour breath

I’ve been playin’ spin the empty jim beam bottle
wishin’ Rip Torn would come by and teach me Texas hold 'em
wishin’ he hit Norman Mailer with a hammer once again

gonna hit the pipe and think before I start to type and shit
flows out of my fingers, I’m waiting on the words
I sucked and sucked and all that came was a pearl necklace all over my face

it was like it was 2016 all over again and no one got what they wanted
until she jumped out of the cake then everyone got exactly what they desired; a broken heart, a nail file and a drunken memory that don’t fit in a box

like a cat with no heartbeat or conscience or power of objective or rationale thought I was smoking a joint on the toilet, hoping peace might find me
or at the very least something to calm my nerves while I call my dealer

he does deliveries in a beater car with no tail lights, I slip him an extra $5 for bail money
the pizza was cold so I turned the oven on and stuck my head inside
I love my dates with Sylvia Plath, we listen to Peter Laughner together

let’s change the speed of this poem, I prefer my poetry no slower than 78rpms Robert Johnson’s me and the devil burning like a sandpaper joint
even a smoking baby can get lung cancer, even fidel castro plays for the pilots

even a revolutionary beard can get lice
infested with stars from one soiree or another
the little cigarettes reek of phantom limbs
mildew and wet lone ranger comics
fishnets and crumpled up promissory notes
I’ve been trying to buy lawn furniture since before Christ was born

after the crucifixion I grabbed a tiki torch and burned the world down
it was like playing grab ass with Christ
he kept pretending he wasn’t interested, but I knew he couldn’t resist my muchachas for long

NOT QUITE LOVE SONGS (For Craig Robertson)

https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/charlespoet/episodes/2019-06-03T07_25_27-07_00

Strips everything to the bone
Wears a sardonic smile and a gumshoe fedora
Brave enough to crawl into the breech as the bonfires on the beach shine their bright luminosities and the strangled Christmas lights remind us of besotted hope

Her anger changed him into another man
An invisible man
He always showed up until he didn’t and that was the straw that broke the camel’s last hump

These songs are an interrogation under an undressed bulb as our sheetrock chemistries leave us in the vandalized dark with a dead feeling lying atop our suicide vests
“Inside my heart locked away are all the things I’m meant to say and all the songs I’m meant to play for you are locked away in my heart.”
The evil dead are at the bedroom door endlessly knocking out their smash mouth melodies

Meet the challenge by doing your chosen work no matter how small the room is
The boardinghouse is meant for those down and out, not idiot savants or stable geniuses who believe a trade war will change a fucking thing
“I was saying fuck you before you were born. I’ll be saying fuck you long after you’re gone.”

Surely you jest. (For Beth)

https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/charlespoet/episodes/2019-06-01T12_35_42-07_00

She asked when will the world let me in on my own terms and I could totally relate and understand how the party she was invited to wasn’t the party she had planned in her sweet forty seven year old head.
Let’s stop standing ourselves up and instead focus on the cows grazing in the pastures of plenty that don’t know they’re cows, but still fulfill their function because integrity is our last best hope and the only game worth betting on.
I know her poems cradle her in the fragile cocoon of an aspiring ballerina butterfly that knows no bounds when pressing on becomes her very last prayer.

God Is Everywhere.
That’s plain to see once we remove the scales from our eyes and cease and desist from worrying over outcomes and unpaid debts.
She was a scrapper and a scavenger long before it was in vogue showing off one’s true feelings and trading in our emotional baggage for something more simplistic like divine ecstasy.

Her poems are building blocks trading in fear for the acceptance of who she is and why she traveled through the sky to be here.
She landed like a champ as descent and ascent got mashed up and her vegan diet showed her the way to paradises unadorned when heart healthy replaces salt and processed food with a diet based on a wide variety of whole plant foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds.
Nothing stands in Beth’s way as she becomes her best friend and leaves all the carbon monoxide behind her in someone else’s garage of reckoning.

Nothing more

https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/charlespoet/episodes/2019-05-28T22_55_26-07_00

Sometimes I like to suck on the bowl and pretend it’s a hard cock.
The pot gets me high enough to rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat.
I know who you are, but I don’t play Chess or any longer care for Bergman films.

All the poets I know are pussies, except for Jason who brings the house down with his fire sale orisons praying to no one, but a porcelain God.
My inner child and your inner child went out for a pack of smokes and neither one of them returned to the scene of the crime.
Sometimes I like to joust with my imaginary friend and pretend he or she gives a shit.

Things are bottoming out and I’m not sure what to do next.
Panic only seems to exasperate an already stressed situation.
Her voice pierces my stoned ineptitude and I hit myself because I’m a rageaholic who is tired of giving directions and still ending up lost.

Sometimes I like to rub real hard on the lamp until a genie pops out.
Will Smith is no Robin Williams and I’m offended that they even went there.
Let’s change channels and watch instead the open expanse shoveling clean coal into our frozen dinosaur hearts.
